Chapter 8 Barriers

Chapter 8 barriers are a specific type of road safety barrier that have to meet certain regulations to make them safe for road use. One of these stipulations is that the barrier must have a reflective strip to make it visible at night or in adverse conditions.

There are three main types of barrier within this category; Pedestrian and road work barriers, Small ground work barriers, and anti-Climb fencing.

Pedestrian Barriers

The pedestrian and road work barriers include the Avalon linking barriers and Strongwall barriers. These are great systems that allow for easy linking between units to produce a large unbroken fence. They all feature a reflective strip to ensure that they are easily seen at night.

ManHole Barriers

The small ground work and man-hole barriers include the Vim barrier and Safegate barrier.  These are ideal for smaller works as they come “flat packed” and are easy to set out quickly. Again these barriers feature reflective strips for improved visibility.

Anti-Climb Barriers

Anti-climb barriers are ideal for use around sites where it is imperative that pedestrians cannot enter.   These barriers are generally over six foot in height, and are highly stable.
